I belong to a Watercolor Workshop group and we have monthly projects. Last month, our theme was greens and
the posted optional image was that of a parrot.
Having a topic to focus upon and shared images, makes it great fun to see who other artists create on the same theme. I'm always inspired by what my watercolor friends come up with and enjoy experimenting along with them.
Here is my finished painting on the shared image.
Oh, darn, I lost my comment just as I was about to post it. I'll have to try to rewrite it. Anyway, very nice!! I love the rich jewel tones, and the plumage has nice detail without being fussy. The foliage is good, although I have to say that I slightly prefer the version you sent me where you used the gold thread paper for texture; more playful. But the way you got the pigment to precipitate out in granular layers in the lower left corner of this one is just brilliant. That's an effect that I can only ever achieve by accident; it never happens when I try to do it.

I like the second painting with the two parrots and the Oriental paper added to the background.
I'll post that one, too.
I love getting granular layers! Many of the Daniel Smith Watercolor brand paints granulate beautifully. I love all the earth/mineral pigments he uses.
